Picking the Right Golf Clubs

If you are considering taking up the great sport of golf for exercise, business concerns, or merely as a hobby, you should make sure you are picking the right golf clubs for your particular golf game. Your golf clubs will have a huge impact on how well you play the game and if you are like most people, how well you play the game will be a factor in whether or not you continue playing.

Most beginners go out and buy a set of clubs based on a friend's recommendation or a television commercial with a famous personality. This is a bad idea for many reasons. First of all, just because your friends clubs or sets of clubs work well for them doesn't mean they wouldn't have a better game with a different club or set of clubs. Second, what works best for your friends may not be the best for you. And finally, you can bet that your favorite golfer, while endorsing a companies product, is going to have his or her clubs custom made by that company rather than using the off the shelf variety.

The best way to go in order choose the right golf clubs for you is to go to a shop that specializes in golf clubs. These shops will have equipment that can help identify your specific needs in a club. For one thing your height and arm length will impact the length of shaft you will need on a golf club. You want to be able to address the ball comfortably each and every time. If your clubs are too long or too short this could be part of your problem. Also selecting the right type of material for your shaft will have an impact on your game.

Do you have a tendency to hit the ball hard and far, but find that you have very little control over where the ball goes? You may need a less flexible shaft. If you have the opposite problem, excellent control but no distance, a graphite shaft may be what your inner golfer needs.

You may also find that you need different levels of controls for different clubs. A pre-made, mass marketed set is not always your best choice when it comes to purchasing golf clubs. Of course you may not want to go to an incredible amount of expense in purchasing a set if you aren't sure you'll enjoy the sport (trust me there will be days you hate it, then you'll hit that one perfect shot and remember why you love it so much). At the same time, the right equipment can help you enjoy playing that much better.

If you can't justify the expense in your mind, then you may want to start out with an inexpensive beginners set and add one piece at a time as your skills and love of the game improve. That's the way I did it, though now I wish I had had the better equipment to begin with. Whatever you decide to do, don't overlook the impact that a good set of clubs will have on your golf game.
